Rare All Gilt Edge First Edition,
    First Printing of Twain's Classic

Mark Twain [pseudonym of Samuel Langhorne Clemens]. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Hartford: The American Publishing Company, 1876. First American edition, first printing. Printed on calendared paper and one of but few copies with all gilt edges (the BAL states only 748 copies issued thus). Octavo. [i-xi] xii-xiii [xiv-xv] xvi, [17] 18-274[-276], [4] publisher's catalog pages. Illustrated. This copy sold with a W. & A. H. Fry, Brighton, England albumen carte de visite image of Twain taken about 1872 and an original 4.5 x 6 inch albumen photograph of Twain in his later years. Publisher's original blue cloth blocked and lettered in black and gilt. Peach endpapers and triple flyleaves as called for. Modest shelf wear to boards with some abrasion on the corners and lower spine. Spine slightly sun faded at the headband and tailband. Former owner's bookplate on the front pastedown. Text of pages generally clean and free of markings. In a chemise and housed in a half-morocco slipcase. A very good copy of this rare gilt-edge variation. BAL3369.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
