Mark Twain. Mark Twain's Sketches, New and Old. Hartford: 1875. First edition, first issue.

    More Information:

Mark Twain. Mark Twain's Sketches, New and Old. Hartford: American Publishing, 1875. First edition, first issue (repeated footnotes on pages 119-120 and "Hospital Days" still present on page 299). Octavo. 320 pages. Publisher's full blue cloth, boards and spine stamped in black, front board and spine stamped in gilt. Spine a bit sunned, some rubbing and mild soiling to binding, front hinge barely starting, rear hinge starting, text a bit toned with some occasional soiling. The errata slip on page 299 is affixed to the page, but the text portion is torn away (some accompanying offsetting). Lightly skewed. Very good. From the collection of Donald Kaufmann.

"Hospital Days" was removed from later issues and editions of this title when it was discovered it was not written by Twain.
