Title page cancel with copyright 1884. The frontispiece portrait, which includes the tissue guard (torn), has the imprint of the Heliotype Printing Co. (the tablecloth, or scarf, being clearly visible). Page 283 with Uncle Silas' straight fly is mounted onto a cancel.
Publisher's full green pictorial cloth, stamped and lettered in gilt and black. Binding rubbed, exposing boards at corners and along the lower edges, scratched and soiled. Cloth frayed at extremities. Spine ends chipped. Rear joint with small holes and tears. Hinges cracked after front free endpaper and before rear free endpaper. Lower third of textblock dampstained and rippled with varying degrees of affect internally. Pencil marks in text indicating issue points. Few over-opened pages, signature "14" still in place, but lightly sprung. Some additional dampstaining and occasional soiling. Few margin tears. About very good.
