John Steinbeck. Cannery Row. New York: Viking
Press, 1945. First edition, second issue, association copy,
inscribed by Steinbeck on front free endpaper to Anaïs: "For
Anais / who if circumstances / & sexes were / not so involved,
/ I would ask to / be my bride / John Steinbeck." Octavo. [vi],
208, pages. Publisher's canary yellow cloth, top edge stain
blue. In pictorial dust jacket. Housed in a custom clamshell case.
Dust jacket has a touch of rubbing and edgewear with minor chips,
two closed tears on rear panel. Light rubbing on covers with minor
soiling, spine slightly darkened, extremity wear on spine ends and
corners, top stain lightly faded. Still, a near fine copy with a
remarkable association. Goldstone & Payne A22b.
Inscribed to Anaïs Nin
More Information: An oddly playful inscription from Steinbeck, almost certainly addressed to Anais Nin. During 1945, both Steinbeck and Nin were living in New York City and the two had several mutual and near-mutual acquaintances, including Henry Miller, Ed Ricketts, and Sasha Hammid (see Nin Diaries Vol. IV, p. 75). Before the publication of Cannery Row, Nin wrote in her diary: "May make side trips to visit Steinbeck and Krishnamurti and the Rosicrucian Center" (The Journals of Anais Nin: 1939-1944, 119). A later diary entry, dated August 1946, admires Steinbeck's work: "How easy it is to do what Steinbeck does, to take people's suffering. Physical hunger, physical poverty, whose troubles are direct, concrete, simple. His world is simple to tell" (Nin Diaries Vol. IV, p. 122).

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
HA.com receives more traffic than any other auction house website. (Source: Similarweb.com)
