[vi], xcv, [1, blank], 482, [1, publisher's catalogue of the same series], [1, blank] pages. Complete with half-title, two-page privilege statement, engraved title-page, and publisher's one-page catalogue. Bound in contemporary full burgundy crushed levant morocco, covers triple-ruled in gilt, gilt florets in corners, spine tooled and lettered in gilt in compartments, five raised bands, gilt board edges and turn-ins, marbled endleaves, all edges gilt. Spine tailcap chipped, some wear to boards and joints, some sunning and soiling to binding, mild foxing in text. Overall, a very good copy of this handsome book. With the armorial bookplate George Harry Grey, Fifth Earl of Stamford (1737-1819).

    More Information:

    This is one of a series of books, beautifully printed, designed for the education of the Dauphin, Louis Joseph of France (the eldest son of Louis XVI, who was beheaded in 1789 during the French Revolution). The Dauphin died in 1789 of an illness at the age of seven.
