New York: Charles Wiley, 1823. First edition, second printing, with the Clayton imprint on the title page, but with the text corrections consistent with the Seymour imprint. First state of volume two, with the page number 329 at the left side of the page. Front cover of volume one detached. Scattered foxing and spotting to the text. BAL 3829. [and:] The Last of the Mohicans. Philadelphia: H. C. Carey & I. Lea, 1826. First edition, with the errors at pages 89 and 243, but the correct versions of the other two errors that are sometimes seen with this title. Title page of volume one washed in an attempt to remove a signature, with dark, even toning to the preliminaries. Small streak of brown staining to pages 259-264 of volume one. Title page of volume two professionally silked. BAL 3833. [and:] The Prairie. Philadelphia: Carey, Lea & Carey, 1827. First American edition. Some toning and scattered foxing to the textblock. Abrading to the paper in the middle of the copyright notice. BAL 3836. [and:] The Pathfinder: or, the Inland Sea. Philadelphia: Lea and Blanchard, 1840. First edition, first state of volume one, with the imprints in the middle of page [2] and no copyright notice. Both title pages washed in an attempt to remove separate ownership signatures. Minor foxing. BAL 3892. [and:] The Deerslayer: or, the First War-Path. A Tale. Philadelphia: Lea and Blanchard, 1841. First edition. Foxing to text edges. Light, very occasional foxing. Text likely washed. BAL 3895. All volumes complete per BAL, except for two blanks in Last of the Mohicans, one blank in The Pathfinder, and one blank in The Deerslayer. Uniformly bound in full brown mottled leatherette with gilt spine titles. Top edges gilt. Housed together in a custom brown cloth slipcase. Minor shelf wear, with tiny fingernail nicks to a few spines. All in all, a very good set.
