    A Lovely Set of Cooper's Novels, With an Autograph Letter Signed by Cooper Tipped-In to Pathfinder

    James Fenimore Cooper. Cooper's Novels. New York: W. A. Townsend and Company, 1859-1862. Early uniform set. Thirty-two octavo volumes. With illustrations by F.O.C. Darley. Publisher's olive cloth over beveled boards with titles lettered in gilt on the spines and an armorial vignette on the front board of each volume. Moderate wear to spine ends, corners and edges of boards. Occasional scattered foxing to the frontispieces and tissue guards. Light toning to contents. A handsome set in generally very good condition. There are two Autograph Letters Signed tipped into this set. The first is a one-page ALS by Cooper answering an autograph seeker, tipped in to a front flyleaf of Pathfinder. The second letter is an ALS by the illustrator, F. O. Darley involving "designs for Mr. Abbot's work" tipped in to a front flyleaf of The Pilot.
