    More Information:

Horace (65-8 B.C.), a native of Apulia, rose from his servile origins to the patronage of Maecenas and the confidence of the emperor Augustus.  His odes imitate the lyric poetry of early Greece, while his satires and epistles are notable for their realism and sense of irony.  Horace's works were highly influential into modern times, and were considered standard fare for the schoolroom well into the twentieth century.

Creech, Thomas (1659-1700), translator and classical scholar.        Wing H2775 [Only 2 copies recorded BL & U. of Mich.]  ESTC r178215.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
