    More Information: By his translations from the classics Cooke (1703-1756) achieved a wider and deserved reputation. In 1728 he translated 'Hesiod,' and his early patron, the Earl of Pembroke, and Theobald contributed notes. This book gave him his popular nickname of Hesiod Cooke.
