Henry Fielding. [George Cruikshank, illustrator]. The History of Tom Jones, a Foundling... In Two Volumes. London: James Cochrane and Co., 1831. One work in two octavo volumes. Two frontispiece illustrations and seven engraved illustrations by George Cruikshank. Ex-library copies with the large bookplate of the "Chichester Literary Society & Mechanics' Institute", donated by Mrs. Margaret Phelps, on both front pastedowns. Bound in half black morocco over marbled paper covered boards, five raised spine bands with gilt titles in compartments, marbled edges and end papers. Bindings rubbed, scratched and lightly soiled. Ink holograph number on front fly-leaf of the first volume. Few over-opened pages (some pages coming loose in first volume); image off-set on pages facing plates, including title pages; pages with some foxing, soiling and minor stains; else in very good condition.Auction Info
