The extra-illustrated Cambridge Edition, limited to 999 copies and signed by the managing editor, of which this set is numbered 552. Seventeen volumes in thirty-one, octavo. Various paginations. Seventeen full-color vignette series titles, seventeen frontispieces, head-pieces, in-text illustrations, and over 1,750 leaves of inserted plates (some color, some facsimiles). Fairly contemporary dark green morocco; front and back with gilt ruled borders; spine lettered in gilt with six gilt-ruled compartments and five raised bands. Gilt-stamped interior dentelles; insides of boards with gilt-decorated red morocco inlay. Cream moiré-covered free endpapers. Top edge of text block trimmed and gilt; all others rough-trimmed. General mild shelf wear, particularly at ends of spines; some surface scratches to backstrips, scuffing to edges and corners. Scattered spots of wear, soiling to red morocco inlays. A handful of scrapes to trimmed edges of text blocks; other edges with regular age toning. Normal yellowing to interior of text block; occasional spot staining, thumbsoiling. A dusty but very good set with copious illustrations. First volume with a two-page full-color illustrated limitation statement, signed by the edition's managing editor, Robert Arnot.
