[ยน4], B-2P8. vii,[1],49, 66-79, 64-591, [1]p. 1/2 calf, gilt ruling, banded spine with gilt stamped decoration and gilt lettering. Corners worn, blue pebble grained boards. Browning, few light dampstains. Few small clean tears at very top margin on M1, O8, and Q6, no affect. Minor worm holes in lower right corner of N8 and lower left margins of Cc7-8, no loss of text. T4 labelled as "T3." Engraved printer's device on t.p., headpieces and tailpieces. From the Krown & Spellman Collection.

    Giovanni Boccaccio (1313-75), Italian writer and humanist, is best remembered for this collection of stories told against the backdrop of the Black Plague in 1348.

    Balguy, Charles (1708-1767), physician, son of Henry Balguy of Newbold, Derbyshire, was born at Derwent Hall, Derbyshire, and was educated at Chesterfield grammar school and St John's College, Cambridge. He took the degree of MB in 1731 and MD in 1750. He practised in Peterborough, and was secretary of the literary club there. He contributed to the Philosophical Transactions, and in 1741 he published, anonymously, a translation of Boccaccio's Decameron. This was reprinted several times.[ODNB]       ESTC t128696.
