Very good, some leaves showing overall discoloration but most in very clean condition, 12 3/4 x 7 1/4 inches, full calf rebound with modern leather spine, [32], 660, [24] pages plus engraved frontispiece portrait of Chaucer. Front matter before pagination consists of letter to Sir Robert Cecil from Thomas Speght [2], an introduction "To The Readers" [2], letter to Thomas Speght from Francis Beaumont [4], "The Reader to Geffrey Chaucer" [2], 'The Life of Our Learned English Poet, Geffrey Chaucer" [12], "Advertisement to the Reader" [1], blank [1], title page [1], blank [1],"To the King's Highness..." [2], "A Table of the Principal Matters Contained in the Volume..." [2], and "Eight goodly Questions, with their Answers" [2]. Rear matter after pagination consists of 'The Old and Obscure Words in Chaucer explained...", "The French and Latin In Chaucer translated." and "The Names of the Authors cited by Chaucer" [24]. A very clean copy of the last black letter edition.
