    More Information:

Malherbe (1555-1628), poet. "...a purist in style, standing for strength and conciseness of diction as against the unbridled facility of the Pleiade, for sobriety and clearness and avoidance of mere ornament, for intellectual as opposed to emotional poetry...His verses ... lofty in tone, clear, concise, and vigorous... He was slow in composition; it is related that he spent three years on his stanzas on the death of the Presidente de Verdun, so that when they were presented to console her husband he was already consoled and remarried and had died."
