London: for Mathew Lownes, 1611-1613. [1615?: See STC note in extended description]. First collected edition. First edition of "Mother Hubberd". Small folio. A-P6 [-A1], Q4, R-2H6, [8], A-G6, F4, A-L6, M2. 363, [28], 56, 16, [136] pages. [Lacks first title, first preliminary and last blank.] Numerous elaborately decorated woodcut head- and tail-pieces, printer's devices. Contemporary paneled calf, floral gilt spine, title label missing, small holograph shelf label in lower compartment.

    Binding rubbed, scuffed, and lightly crazed around the boarders, corners bumped, spine worn with some loss of gilt surface, minor leather loss at head and foot, cracked joints; front hinge cracked, endpapers stained from leather turn-ins. Lacks first title page and dedication leaf A1. Front free endpaper and A2 creased; and along with A3 and M2 [final leaf] are also coming loose from binding. Paper tabs visible around signatures A and B, possibly for sewing support. Holograph ink name dated "1646" on verso of M1 from "Visions of Bellay" with ink off-set to facing page. Holes and trails from biopredation along inner margin [heavier near foot] text not affected. Small hole from Z2-Z4 in text with very minor loss. Few page tears, creases, occasional holograph pencil marks in margins, light soiling, foxing, faint dampstains towards back of book; otherwise in good condition. From the Krown & Spellman Collection.

"The Shepheards Calender." [Also Includes:] "Mother Hubberds Tale." "Colin Clouts Come Home Againe." "The Mourning Muse of Thestylis." "An Elegie, or Friends Passion." "Prothalamion." "Amoretti and Epithalamion." "Foure Hymnes." "Daphnaida." "Complaints Containing Sundry Small Poems." "The Ruines of Time." "The Teares of the Muses." "Virgils Gnat." "The Ruines of Rome by Bellay." "Muiopotmos." and "Visions."

                                  

    Lack first title page but according to ESTC this edition is the third re-issue of the 1609 edition (a 1615 date conjectured by STC, with B3 stanza starting "Young Knight" and R3 catchword "And"). The title pages for: "The Second Part of Faerie Queene" is dated 1612, "Shepheards Calender", "Mother Hubberd", and the following works are dated 1611.
