    More Information: De Rossi (1754-1827) poet, dramatist, literary & art critic, antiquarian, writer on archaeology and biographer, he was intended by his father to go into banking but he preferred a literary life. He wrote a number of artist's lives for the Memorie per le belle arti (1785-88); and was a member of various literary circles. After 1798, he lived in Rome as the minister of finance of the Republic. Besides his literary works, he published a number of treatises on various points of archaeology. He was prolific and quite popular in his day, several of his works were printed by Bodoni.
