    More Information:

Abraham Cowley (1618-67), a gifted poet and charter member of the Royal Society, was a royalist who passed letters between King Charles and his queen in their period of exile.  Precocious, he was considered to be the greatest living poet in his own day, and as befitted such, he was ultimately laid to rest in Westminster Abbey near Chaucer and Spencer, the latter being his earliest inspiration.
