    Charles Paul de Kock. The Works of Charles Paul de Kock. Boston: The Frederick J. Quinby Company, 1902. Memorial Edition, limited to 250 copies. Twenty five octavo volumes (8.75 x 6 inches; 222 x 150 mm.). Illustrated with 176 plates, including fifty eight original etchings (eight of which are colored), five original watercolors, and two pen and ink drawings. Bound for the publisher by The Harcourt Bindery in contemporary half red levant morocco over marbled boards, spines tooled and lettered in gilt in compartments, with multi-colored morocco floral onlays, three raised bands, top edge gilt, others rough cut, marbled endleaves. Spines uniformly toned to dark red, some occasional wear to headcaps and joints, a few hinges starting. Bookplates of United States Attorney General, A. Mitchell Palmer (1872-1936, Attorney General from 1919-1921) on the front pastedown of each volume. Good. [Together with:] Charles Paul de Kock. Autograph Letter Signed. Paris: January, 1833. One octavo page on one quarto leaf (unfolded leaf: 7.25 x 9.625 inches; 188 x 242 mm.). Text in French. Letter is laid into volume XXII, along with its tipped-in English translation. Letter toned, with some creasing, chipping and thumbsoiling. Good. A transcription of the translation is available online. Gustave Barba (1803-1867) was one of de Kock's publishers.

    More Information: Letter translation: "My dear Gustave, I am reminding you that I will wait for you until you come to-morrow, Thursday, at my house about eight o'clock in the evening, to go from there to the ball of the Circulating Library, where I believe we will laugh. Joyous Greetings, Ch. Paul de Kock. January 30, I will chance cotton trousers. Addressed: Monsieur Gustave Barba 34, rue Mazarine, Paris."
