    Charles Dickens. The Personal History of David Copperfield. London: Bradbury & Evans, May 1849-Nov. 1850. Original serial issue. Twenty parts in nineteen, octavo (8.75 x 5.5 inches; 222 x 141 mm.). Four to thirty-two pages of preliminary advertisements; text continuously paginated 1-624; eight leaves of preliminaries follow text in final part. Frontispiece, vignette title-page and thirty-eight additional inserted plates, the majority with tissue inserts as issued. Original blue-green illustrated paper wrappers. Several backstrips chipped at head and foot; some light soiling, wear at hinges; some parts skewed. Regular edge wear to wrappers; light creasing, soiling, fraying and chipping. Faint spotting to plates; some offsetting, foxing to tissue. Occasional marginal thumbsoiling, splashing to interior of text block; evidence of dog-earing, some rumpling to corners of pages; scattered pencil annotations, mostly to Parts IX and XI; tea spill on page 347, with further small tea splashes. Good to very good. Housed in a custom chemise and slipcase. Additional notes on condition and ads online. Includes "Lett's diaries" advertisement inserted at end of Part VIII, which unfolds to a 26 inches (660 mm.) length, with ten specimen diary leaves.     Parts X, XI, XIII, XV, and XVII-XX rebacked. Penciled signature to front wrapper of Part XII. Final part sophisticated--rear wrapper belongs to Part I.

    First leaf of front ads torn out of Parts IV, XI, XIX/XX; third leaf out of Part X. Part VII lacks Punch slip. Part VIII lacks all front ads but has "The Ladies' Home Companion" insert on green paper. Final slip lacking in Part XII. Part XVIII lacks all but two pages of rear ads. Final part lacking second front slip.
