First edition, mixed state, with "visiter" corrected to "sister" on page 123 but "latter" for "letter" still present on page 160. xiv (no half title), 624 pages. With forty engraved plates by "Phiz," including the engraved frontispiece. Three-quarter tan calf over coarse-grain cloth boards with gilt spine titles and decorations. All edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. A few abrasions and instances of soiling to the leather. Spine lightly sunned, worn and slightly soiled. Bookplate to front pastedown. Tape abrasions to the gutter of the front free endpaper. Previous ownership signature to front blank. Rear hinge starting, with the rear free endpaper partially detached. Occasional, very minor foxing and offsetting to the text. Significant foxing to some plates; others are very clean. A very good copy. From the Victor Gulotta Collection.
