[and:] The Life and Adventures of Martin Chuzzlewit. Philadelphia: Lea and Blanchard, 1844. Second U. S. edition. Three volumes. Octavo. Various paginations. Frontispieces, additional inserted plates, and in-text illustrations. Barnaby Rudge has extra inserted engraved title-page and fourteen plates on ten inserted sheets. Original publisher's cloth; stamped on fronts and backs in blind; stamped in gilt on spines. Old Curiosity Shop housed in custom maroon cloth clamshell with red spine label, stamped in gilt. Martin Chuzzlewit in half dark red morocco slipcase with marbled paper-covered sides in maroon cloth chemise. All edges trimmed. All volumes have some offsetting onto pages around plates. Some shelf wear and a varied amount of fading, loss of gilt to spines. Old Curiosity Shop has stab-holes on pages 57-80. Barnaby Rudge rebacked with original backstrip laid down; some splashes, soiling throughout text block; ink splotch in page 10-11; plates facing pages 197, 199 and 252 partially colored in by previous owner (or relative). Martin Chuzzlewit has most marginal foxing throughout interior of text block. Fair to good. Gimbel A61, A63, A76; Wilkins pp. 17-20, 24-25. From the Collection of Jerome P. O'Connor.
