DescriptionCharles Dickens. Bleak House. London: Bradbury & Evans, 1853. First edition. Bound from parts, with most wrappers inserted throughout.
Octavo. xvi, 624 pages. With forty engraved plates (including the ten "dark plates") inserted throughout. With most wrappers (front and rear) from the parts inserted throughout. Many landscape plates inserted backwards (stab-holes or residue from wrappers evident at outer margins). Later nineteenth-century half olive calf over pebbled cloth boards, spine ruled and lettered in gilt in compartments, five raised bands, top edge gilt, marbled endleaves. Spine a bit sunned, some rubbing and minor wear to extremities and joints, front hinge just starting, text with occasional soiling and minor occasional creasing. Plates foxed. Still, a good copy.
Smith, pp. 81-84.
