Charles Dickens. A Christmas Carol. In Prose. Being a Ghost Story of Christmas. Philadelphia: Carey & Hart, 1844. First American edition. Small octavo. [viii], 158, [2, blank] pages. With four hand-colored and four engraved plates inserted throughout, including hand-colored frontispiece. Half-title printed in blue, title-page printed in red and blue. Original publisher's black cloth, boards ruled in blind and decoratively paneled in blind, spine decoratively stamped in gilt. Still, a very good copy. Now housed in custom-built full red morocco clamshell case.

    More Information:

"A very pretty edition of the 'Carol' was published in 1844 by Carey & Hart, of Philadelphia. It is almost an exact reproduction of the original, except that the covers are black instead of brown cloth. The title on the back is a facsimile of the original, and the title-page is also printed in red and blue. The beautiful colored pictures by Leech in the original have been faithfully reproduced by lithography, and the entire book compares favorably with the original edition" [Edgar and Vail].

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
