    More Information:

Boitel was a historian, poet, and polemicist of the first part of the 17th century. He cultivated the political allegory "toujours au profit des puissants: ainsi Concini mort est 'le faux amour' ou 'Circe', tandis que son meurtrier Vitry est 'le cavalier victorieux,'" His "Tragic Accidents", is his most famous work first published in 1616 which is in the form of Boccaccio's De casibus virorum illustrium. It retells from various sources the often grotesque misfortunes of prominent persons from the Creation to the author's own time. The materials of Boistel's own time are important sources. He also mentions the murder by the Spanish of the Peruvian Chief, Pancras; Jean Ribaut in Florida, and the two Indian kings in Mexico.
