    The 1902 Facsimile of Shakespeare's First Folio

Shakespeares Comedies, Histories, & Tragedies Being a Reproduction in Facsimile of the First Folio Edition 1623 from the Chatsworth Copy in the Possession of the Duke of Devonshire, K. G.. Oxford: At the Clarendon Press, 1902. Limited facsimile edition of 1,000 hand numbered copies, of which this is number 315, and signed by both Sidney Lee and subscriber W. F. Rawnsley on the limitation page. xxxv, 907 pages. Bound in tan imitation leather, five raised spine bands with gilt lettered title label in compartment. Boards lightly rubbed, few white spots on front board, front joint with surface cracks, title label creased; bookplate and ink signature of Jerry D. Melton dated "10-1-1976" on front pastedown, few holograph pencil notes in margins, first facsimile leaf reinforced along gutter with white cloth tape, metal wire reinforcements visible between pages 4 and 5, being the facsimile title page and facsimile A2; and discolorations on pages 420 and 421. [issued with:] Sidney Lee. Shakespeares Comedies, Histories, & Tragedies: A Census of Extant Copies. 45 pages, string-bound supplement. Front cover and title page with diagonal crease across lower half, back cover with small "Folger Shakespeare Library" ink stamp and holograph pencil number "129", pages with light edge wear and minor creases. Bound in red cloth with large embossed text and paper title label on front board in original dust jacket. Small corner bumps, and light dust jacket wear. Three books in very good condition, celebrating the beauty and continued survival of Shakespeare's First Folio.
