[William Shakespeare]. [Second Folio]. The Tragedie of Troylus and Crefsida. and The Tragedy of Coriolanus. and The Lamentable Tragedy of Titus Andronicus. and The Tragedie of Romeo and Ivliet. [from Mr. VVilliam Shakespeares comedies, histories, and tragedies : Published according to the true originall copies, also known as the Second Folio. London: Printed by Tho. Cotes..., 1632]. Indeterminate issue, lacking title or other preliminaries. Folio in sixes (12.875 x 8.75 inches; 328 x 222 mm.). 1-106 pages (note: digits on page 85 transposed, reading "58"). Head- and tail-pieces; initials. Twentieth-century decorative brown leather binding; all text block edges trimmed and sprinkled red and black. Expected minor spotting throughout interior, with occasional handful of small stains or spots of soiling; overall evidence of handling, including creasing at and near the corners of some leaves; soiling at head of gutter between leaves ff3 and 4, faintly offsetting onto following pages; leaf gg4 (penultimate leaf of Titus Andronicus) inserted onto stub and re-margined at top (just over half an inch) and upper corner, outside column to 24 lines down, supplied in facsimile; handful of contemporary inked X's scattered throughout margins of Romeo and Juliet. Very good overall. Housed in custom clamshell matching the binding. The Second Folio, appearing nine years after the First, corrected textual errors made in the original printing and marks the first time John Milton's work (unattributed) appeared in print.
