The Complete First Sixty-Six Years of Punch Magazine

[William Makepeace Thackeray; Henry Mayhew; John Leech; Richard Doyle; John Tenniel; et. al.]. [Punch Magazine]. Punch and London Charivari. London: Published for the Proprietors, [n.d., 1841] - 1906. The first sixty-six annual volumes of Punch Magazine, complete and consecutive. Sixty-six quarto volumes. Approximately 10.75 x 8 inches. Uniformly bound in publisher's full blue cloth, boards paneled and elaborately stamped in blind, front boards, with gilt central "Punch" logo, spines decoratively stamped and numbered in gilt. Most volumes with some degree of wear, some hinges cracked, some loose or damaged leaves, some ownership markings or bookplates. Generally good to very good. It is unusual to find a complete collection of the first sixty-five years of Punch Magazine. From the Collection of Judith Adelman.

    More Information:

Punch was begun in 1841 by Henry Mayhew and Ebenezer Landells, who published the (initially) struggling magazine until 1842, when they were forced to sell it to London publishers Bradbury and Evans. Punch featured many illustrations by some of the most prominent artists of the day, including John Leech, Richard Doyle and John Tenniel. It became the hallmark of humorous yet conservative articles and illustrations. They even coined the term "cartoon". Their success increased steadily until the mid 1940's when circulation began to decline. They had to close their doors in 1992 after 150 years of publication. It enjoyed a brief resurrection in 1996, but was forced to close again in 2002.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
