    [Washington Irving]. The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent. [Vol. I-] Vol. II. London: John Miller [and] John Murray, 1820. First English edition, both volumes. vi, [3]-354. [x], [3]-419 pages. Full calf with single gilt rules and blind stamped diamond design on boards, lacking backstrips, marbled edges and matching endpapers. Bookplate of "S.V.S Wilder. On front pastedown of Volume I, both half-titles with holograph ink signature: "Mrs. Wilder" one dated "1820". Boards detached, rubbed, scuffed, and soiled; volume one front free endpaper loose; volume two front free endpaper, fly-paper and half-title coming loose; pages with foxing; otherwise internally in very good condition.

    "The first complete English edition was published in 1820, in two volumes, the first by John Miller in February containing the first four numbers, and the second by John Murray in July, containing the last three numbers. ... Publication was begun by Miller, who failed after the first volume had been published. Murray continued publication of the first volume and also published the second volume." - [Langfeld, page 23].
