    [Sir Walter Scott]. Waverley Novels. Woodstock, Volumes I and II Presented to Lt. General Ulysses S. Grant by the Citizens of Boston, January 1, 1866. Boston: Ticknor and Fields, 1863. Household edition. With presentation bookplates mounted on the front pastedown of each volume: "Lieut. Gen. U.S. Grant [Seal of the City of Boston] From Citizens of Boston. January 1 1866". Two small octavo volumes (7 x 4.5 inches; 178 x 114 mm). 357; 360 pages. Contemporary half tan calf over marbled boards. Titles stamped in gilt on morocco labels; additional gilt decoration in compartments between raised bands. All edges and endpapers marbled. Very good. Modest shelf wear along the edges; light damp stain at the lower edge of the spine of volume I. Part of a larger set given to Grant in appreciation of his service during the Civil War by the citizens of Boston. Property from the Estate of Robert (Bobby) Palazzo, Westlake Village, CA.
