    Description

[Sir Walter Scott]. The Pirate. Edinburgh: Archibald Constable and Co., 1822. First edition, first state with "their" at end of line 20 on p. 17 of second volume. Three volumes. Octavo (7.25 x 4.625 inches; 183 x 118 mm.). [2], vii, [1, blank], 322; [2], 332; [2], 346 pages. Contemporary half calf over marbled paper-covered boards, spine tooled in gilt with five raised bands and dark red morocco spine label, lettered in gilt; all text block edges trimmed and sprinkled red. Fairly mild wear at joints and spine ends, resulting in a bit of loss to surface of calf; boards lightly rubbed; minor edge wear; corners tapped. Small amount of faint foxing to endpapers; tiny, short worm track at lower corner of front free endpaper of first volume. Top edges of text blocks darkened, a couple of small spots of soiling; a few scattered instances of spot-staining and thumbsoiling at margins; ribbon placeholders frayed. Very good.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
