    More Information:

The Jeux Floraux de Toulouse was a poetry contest, said to have been established in 1323 by seven troubadours of that city who had constituted themselves into a college. The said troubadours invited other troubadours to meet the following year in order to compete with poems on the Virgin for the prize of a golden violet; in subsequent years two other prizes, namely the silver eglantine and silver marigold were added. The contest was imitated by several other cities, and more recent winners include Du Bartas, Fabre D'ƒglantine, and Victor Hugo.  The present volume contains the prize winning pieces for the contest of 1707. We have located a single copy at Oxford.
