Two volumes, octavo (7 x 4.625 inches; 179 x 112 mm.). xiv, [2], 262 (remaining pages misnumbered "259-60, 265-66, 263-4, [2], 267-68" for a total of 272); [2], viij, [2], 306, [6], 16 pages. Frontispieces and eighty additional inserted plates; thirty-nine in first volume; forty-one in second. Engraved after Charles-Dominique-Joseph Eisen. Contemporary mottled calf, acid stained and colored red and green with gilt ruled borders; gilt fillet and interior dentelles; Both volumes rebacked with original backstrip laid down, spine decorated in gilt with brown morocco spine label. All edges gilt; marbled endpaper. Chipping and edge wear to calf, some darkening, spot soiling, particularly at backstrips. Some loss of gilt to edges of text block; dust soiling to top edge. Wear, fading, marginal soiling to endpapers; inner hinge repairs. Minor marginal toning, foxing scattered throughout text blocks; faint offsetting. Bookplates of Richard Lane Freer tipped to front pastedowns, along with "Pull Court Library" shelf labels; label marking Archdeacon Freer's bequest of the books to "E. R. Dowdeswell" on front pastedown of first volume. Very good. From the Illustrated Book Collection of David Salinas.
