    Description

[James Fenimore Cooper]. The Deerslayer. Or, the First War-Path. Philadelphia: Lea & Blanchard, 1841. First edition. Two volumes. Twelvemo. 267, [1, blank]; 282 pages (note: first volume lacking front free endpaper and [i]-[iv], possibly preliminary blanks). Publisher's cloth, printed paper spine labels; all text block edges trimmed. Bindings rather worn and soiled, as to be expected from a publisher's binding of the period; spine labels darkened, with fairly extensive chipping and loss to paper surface affecting text; fraying and splitting at spine ends and along joints; corners bumped, with boards peeking through cloth. Endpapers faintly foxed; bookplate and owner signatures at front pastedowns; front hinge of first and rear hinge of second volume cracked but still sound. Text block edges dulled. Moderate foxing scattered throughout interiors. Good.
