    [From the library of Charles Dickens]. Charles Dickens. Bleak-House. [French translation.] Paris: L. Hachette et Cie, [1857]. First authorized French edition. Two volumes, duodecimo (6.9375 x 4.4375 inches; 178 x 112 mm.). [8], 404; [4], 383, [1, table of contents] pages (page 285 of first volume misnumbered "385," 52 of second volume "5." Contemporary half red morocco with marbled paper-covered boards; fronts and backs stamped with gilt ruling; spine stamped in gilt with five raised bands. Marbled endpapers. All edges trimmed and marbled. Housed in custom red cloth clamshell; black leather spine labels stamped in gilt. Front board of second volume detached; mild wear to other joints and edges of bindings; some bumping and black damp staining to corners; soft rubbing to boards. Very light wear and white soiling to spine. Minor marginal foxing throughout interiors of text block, with some faint toning at top edges. A few page edges of second volume stuck together at bottom fore-edge, likely from trimming and marbling. Shelf wear at extremities of clamshell. Very good. Charles Dickens's bookplate tipped to front pastedown of first volume, with Gadshill library labels on both. Additional armorial bookplates on verso on front free endpapers, with penciled inscriptions. First volume has address to French public from Charles Dickens in French and English, declaring this the only authorized French translation. From the collection of Jerome P. O'Connor.
