To this Edition Are Likewise Added, Thirty One New Figures Representing His Life by Francis Barlow. London: Printed by H. Hills Jun. for Francis Barlow, 1687. Second edition, with a new translation by Aphra Behn and with new plates of the life of Aesop. Folio. Approximately 12.25 x 7.25 inches. [vi], 1-40, 1-40, 1-17, 2 [sic]-221, [2, Tables], [1, blank] pages. With engraved portrait of Aesop, engraved title-page, engraved armorial page of William Earle, thirty-one engraved plates depicting the life of Aesop (with the "suppressed" plate, no. 17), and all 110 engraved vignettes throughout the text. Plates 16 and 17 (the "suppressed" plate) possibly supplied from another copy, trimmed and mounted onto blanks in their place in the life of Aesop plates. Engraved armorial page re-mounted and restored at lower margin. Several engraved vignettes double-struck with double-images. Bound in nineteenth-century full vellum over beveled boards, boards ruled in red, brown gilt morocco lettering labels on spine, marbled endleaves. Front board nearly detached, spine toned, some rubbing, thumbsoiling to binding, some damage to pastedowns, several early plates dampstained, text and plates toned, thumbsoiled and foxed. Bookseller's ticket and the bookplate of John Eberman on the front pastedown. Still, a very good copy. Wing A703.
