    Description

[Featured Lot]. Charles Dickens. Bleak House. London: Bradbury & Evans, 1853. First edition. Rebound in two volumes. xvi, (1)-288; 289-624 pages (continuous). Engraved title page and frontispiece used in the first volume and the printed title page used in the second. Engraved plates by H. K. Browne. Bound in half green morocco over marbled paper covered boards, five raised spine bands with gilt titles and gilt decorations in compartments. Bindings rubbed and scuffed, corners bumped, spine ends worn, leather backstrip tears, joints cracked at heads. Front hinges open, exposing spines. Volume one with previous owner's name on front free endpaper and pencil bookseller's annotation on verso. Foxing and browning around the image areas of the plates. Some image offset from plates, few over-opened pages, old binding stab holes near gutters, occasional foxing, smudging or soiling. Very good candidate for re-binding.
