Inscribed by A. C. Swinburne to Theodore Watts-Dunton

[Edward Bulwer]-Lytton. Night and Morning. London: George Routledge & Sons, [1873].

New Knebworth edition. Inscribed by A. C. Swinburne on half-title page. Additionally inscribed by London bookseller Albert Myers to famed book collector Lafayette L. Butler on front pastedown. Octavo. 576 pages.

Publisher's full maroon cloth with gilt titles. Mildly rubbed extremities with a hint of spine lean. Some modest abrading to fore-edge of preliminary leaves. Top edge slightly dusty. A tight, bright, near fine copy.

Theodore Watts-Dunton, was an English critic and poet who was close to Tennyson and an intimate of Dante Gabriel Rossetti. He is perhaps best remembered as the man who rescued poet Algernon Charles Swinburne from alcoholism and moved the poet into his home at The Pines, where Swinburne lived with Watts and his family for nearly thirty years until his death. A fabulous association item.
