First edition. Octavo. 296 pages. Engraved presentation leaf, frontispiece, vignette title-page, and three additional inserted plates. Publisher's black leather, spine decoratively stamped and lettered in gilt, boards with decorative blind-stamping and gilt vignettes; all text block edges trimmed and gilt; much later endpapers. Binding rather worn and scuffed, with evidence of possible repairs to joints; corners of boards gently tapped and peeking through cloth at corners. Text block a bit rippled and worn from handling; majority of edge gilding worn away; foxing and discoloration throughout. Good. Housed in custom clamshell.
