[Charles Dickens]. Sketches by "Boz." Illustrative of Every-Day Life, and Every-Day People. London: John Macrone, 1836. First edition. Two volumes, duodecimo (7.9375 x 4.875 inches; 201 x 122 mm.). viii, 348; [4], 342 pages. Frontispieces and fourteen additional inserted plates; seven in each volume. Publisher's original dark green embossed leaf-patterned morocco-grain cloth; spine stamped in gilt. All edges rough-trimmed. Later pale yellow endpapers. Housed in custom green cloth clamshell; spine stamped in gilt; partially lined with marbled paper. Very minor rubbing, gentle bumping to corners. First volume repaired at inner hinges, sewing stabilized with added supports visible from top and bottom of text block; repairs to chips at top and bottom of spine; evidence of color correction washed over gilt. Fraying to cloth at top and bottom of second volume backstrip; small crack extends one inch down from top of inner front hinge; slightly skewed. Small, mild spots of discoloration to boards, particularly second volume. Extremely sparse foxing and thumbsoiling throughout text blocks; occasional rough opening; instances of over-opening. Repaired tears at outer margins of leaves G9 and G10 in first volume (pages 137-40). Two small tears from gutter across inner margin of leaf B7 in second volume (pages 13-4); leaves B12 and C1 stuck together at upper edge (pages 24 and 25 affected); soft creases across middle of some pages, likely occurred before binding. Mild shelf wear at extremities of clamshell. Very good. First edition of Dickens's first publication. Eckel p. 11; Gimbel A1; Smith I, 1. From the collection of Jerome P. O'Connor.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
