[Charles Dickens]. Oliver Twist; or, the Parish Boy's Progress. By "Boz." London: Richard Bentley, 1838. First edition, first issue. Three volumes, duodecimo (8 x 5.75 inches; 203 x 122 mm.). [4], 331, [5]; [4], 307, [1, blank]; [4], 315, [1, blank] pages. Frontispieces and twenty-one additional inserted plates; eight in first volume, six in second, seven in third. Publisher's original reddish brown fine-diaper cloth; front and back stamped in blind; spine stamped in gilt and blind. All edges rough-trimmed. Pale yellow endpapers. Housed in custom red cloth chemise in one-quarter red morocco slipcase, spine stamped in gilt with five raised bands. All volumes rebacked with original backstrip laid down; cloth chipped at spines with some loss of stamping; edges rubbed, corners bumped; spots of discoloration to fronts and backs; front board of second volume completely detached, front free endpaper starting. Dust soiling to top edges of text blocks. Some splattering to endpapers; mild offsetting across from illustrations; evidence of dog-earing throughout text; paper brittle and chipping at extremities; minor marginal splashing and thumbsoiling. Plates browned at edges; volume and facing page numbers penciled onto verso of some, to assist with rebinding. Bookplates of Micajah Pratt Clough on front pastedowns, ink signature of John Middleton on front free endpapers. Moderate shelf wear to slipcase. Good. With cancelled "Fireside" plate facing page 313 in third volume and "Boz" credited as author on all title-pages--indicators of a first issue. Eckel pp. 59-63; Gimbel A27; Smith 4. From the collection of Jerome P. O'Connor.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
