[Charles Dickens]. Master Humphrey's Clock. London: April 1840-Nov. 1841. Original monthly parts.More Information: [Charles Dickens]. Master Humphrey's Clock. London: Chapman and Hall, April 1840-Nov. 1841. Original monthly serial issue. Twenty parts, large octavo. Preliminary advertisements in Parts VII and XX, three and two leaves, respectively; text paginated continuously for three volumes, [1]-306, [1]-306, [1]-420 pages; four leaves of first volume preliminaries in Part VI, three of second volume in Part XII, three of third volume in Part XX; varying inserted rear ads. Frontispieces, head- and tail-pieces, initials and in-text illustrations by George Cattermole and Hablot K. Browne. Original blue-green illustrated paper wrappers. Housed in custom green cloth chemise in green half morocco two-piece slipcase; spine stamped in gilt with five raised bands. Several spines slightly skewed; backstrips chipped head and foot with occasional splitting down the middle, persistent splash soiling and wear; some repairs. Regular edge wear to wrappers; scattered spots of soiling, very light foxing; occasional soft creases, bumping to corners. Front and rear wrappers beginning to detach from Part I, gatherings separated at bottom; drip on front wrapper of Part IV; smudge soiling and splash to rear wrapper of Part V; tear from hinge of front wrapper extending about seven leaves into Part VIII, wormholing extending from rear wrapper into text block. Part I lacking final rear ad, "Tyas's Popular Illustrated Publications"; seventh part lacking last leaf of "Annuals, &c. for 1841" ad. Occasional mild offsetting from illustrations. Minor thumbsoiling, foxing, creasing, bumping and dog-earing scattered throughout interior of text block; rough and over-opening; edge soiling to p. 41 in Part VII; pencil annotations in Part XIII, pp. 57 and 59, sewing ruptured; smudging and drip to Part XV, pp. 128 and 129, respectively. Mild shelf wear at extremities of chemise, ownership plate with curse on front flap; bumping and wear to edges of slipcase, morocco cracking and flaking; spine darkened, some dust soiling to cloth. Good to very good. The Old Curiosity Shop begins on p. 37 of first volume, ends p. 223 of second volume, Parts I and XI. Barnaby Rudge commences p. [229] of second volume.
