London: Printed for Longman, Hurst, Rees, and Orme, 1809. Early English edition. Four volumes, octavo. [8], 462; [4], 454, [2]; [8], 467, [1]; [8], 456 pages. Twenty-four inserted plates, six in each volume. Full green straight-grain morocco; boards paneled in gilt and blind with gilt fillet decoration and gilt-stamped inside dentelle; spine decorated in gilt with five raised bands. All edges trimmed and gilt. In custom tan cloth slipcase. Edge wear to boards, with some loss of gilt fillet decorations; spines somewhat faded; boards rubbed, surface scratches; slight bumping to corners. Repaired cut to front of third volume. Some scratches to edges of text block; dust soiling to top. Occasional mild foxing, thumbsoiling throughout interior of text block; soft creasing toward some fore-edges. Slight shelf wear to extremities of slipcase; some small areas of green and red staining to sides. Very good. From the Illustrated Book Collection of David Salinas.
