Publisher's quarter white cloth over patterned paper-covered boards, spine lettered in black; top edge stained black, fore-edge rough-trimmed; in the original first state dust jacket with Humanity Uprooted priced $3.00 on the rear panel. Spine gently leaning and very lightly soiled; spine ends faintly tanned and softly pushed; board edges lightly worn and discolored; boards partially exposed at corners. Hinges cracked (less so at the front hinge); text block slightly sagging. Dust jacket spine panel dulled, as usual; spine ends worn; front spine fold with a one-and-one-quarter inch closed tear starting at the upper edge; flap folds somewhat worn with small nicks to the edges; rear panel rubbed with some light soiling to the white background. Very good; housed in a custom clamshell case. With the bookplate of Clifton Waller Barrett, a distinguished collector of U. S. literature.
