    W. H. Hudson. Green Mansions. A Romance of the Tropical Forest. London: Duckworth & Co., 1904. First edition, association copy, inscribed by the author to Alice Rothenstein (née Knewstub) on the half-title page: "Mrs Rothenstein / from W. H. Hudson / 6 Feb. 04;" with the bookplate of her husband, painter Sir William Rothenstein, affixed to the front pastedown. Octavo (7.25 x 5 inches; 185 x 126 mm.). [iv], 315, [1, printer's imprint] pages. Publisher's green cloth, over boards with beveled edges, spine and front board lettered in gilt, (favored) variant lacking the blind-stamped publisher's device on the rear board. Spine gently leaning; backstrip faintly dulled; shallow ridge to the front joint; occasional light soiling; bottom corners softly bumped. Hinges repaired; endpapers lightly foxed, faint offsetting to front free endpaper; occasional minor over-opening. An attractive, very good, copy with an excellent association, housed in a custom clamshell case. Basis for the 1959 Mel Ferrer film starring Audrey Hepburn. William Rothenstein, a renowned portraiture artist, painted or sketched several luminaries. His portrait of W. H. Hudson is in the collection of the National Portrait Gallery (NPG 1965).
