Description

First Edition, First Issue of Lolita

Vladimir Nabokov. Lolita. Paris: The Olympia Press, 1955. First edition, first issue (without 1,200 franc sticker on the back of volume one, nor is any sticker residue present.) Two sixteenmo volumes. [6], 7-188, [1, blank], [1, imprint] pages; [8], 9-223, [1, imprint] pages. Original wrappers. Spines a bit worn and creased, panels rubbed and slightly creased and soiled, some light soiling to edges of text, the last forty or so pages in volume II are dampstained at bottom. Both volumes very slightly skewed. Still, a very good copy of this fragile item. Source material for the 1962 Stanley Kubrick film starring Peter Sellers, James Mason, Shelley Winters and Sue Lyon as Lolita.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
