Description

Limited Edition Signed by Virginia Woolf

Virginia Woolf. A Room of One's Own. New York: The Fountain Press / London: The Hogarth Press, 1929. First edition, number 209 of 450 numbered copies signed by Virginia Woolf on the half-title page in her customary purple ink. Small royal octavo. 159 pages. Original maroon cloth boards, lettered in gold on spine. Top edges uncut, fore-edge and bottom edge partially trimmed. Some uneven discoloration and light soiling to the boards. Spine darkened. Edges rubbed, with a tiny amount of chipping to the spine ends. Noticeable offsetting to the rear endpapers. Overall, a very good copy.

    More Information:

An extended essay based on a series of lectures Woolf delivered at two women's colleges at Cambridge University in 1928 in which she examined the societal obstacles women writers faced (and, perhaps, continue to face) in the literary arena. "A woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to write fiction." A feminist classic by one of the pre-eminent modernist writers.
