Upton Sinclair. The Jungle. New York: Doubleday, Page, 1906. First edition, after the author-financed "Jungle Publishing" edition. Second issue, with the following points met: broken "1" in 1906 on the copyright page, broken "y" on line one of page 99, "brass buttons" page 42, "seven dollars" page 82, and large "3" on page 385.

Octavo. 413 pages. Publisher's original green cloth lettered and decorated in black and white. Modest wear to the boards at the corners; some loss to titles. Mild rubbing to corners and spine ends. Very good. Sinclair's graphic descriptions of the dire conditions in the nation's slaughterhouses caused a huge public outcry and led directly to the passage of the Pure Food and Drug Act in 1906 and, ultimately, to the creation of the Food and Drug Administration.
