Toni Morrison. The Bluest Eye. New York: Holt, Rinehart and Winston, 1970. First edition, signed by the author on title-page. Octavo. [6], 164 pages. One-quarter blue cloth over greenish-gray paper-covered boards; spine lettered in silver; all edges trimmed; in the original first state dust jacket with $5.95 price and 1070 code at bottom of front flap. Normal shelf wear to extremities of binding; paper and cloth faded at edges, backstrip. Dust jacket toned unevenly, though mildly, recto and verso; faint tidemark at top extending about two inches down; wear with some slight paper loss at spine and flap fold ends; paper thin at edges of flaps as though torn up from another surface. Some staining at edges of text block. A few areas of spot soiling scattered throughout interior; one or two instances of previous dog-earing. Former owner signature inked to front pastedown. Overall very good. Morrison's first novel. With ticket for "Miami Book Fair International presents Toni Morrison" laid in between front endpapers.
