Tom Robbins. Two Typed Letters Signed. 1976. To a writer at Crawdaddy Magazine about an "auto-interview" in their August, 1977 issue.

    More Information:

Tom Robbins. Two Typed Letters Signed. October 30, 1976 [and:] December 10, 1976. Humorous letters to a writer at Crawdaddy Magazine about an "auto-interview" that was published in their August, 1977 issue.

Both letters addressed to Greg Mitchell. Two quarto leaves on yellow paper. Each approximately 11 x 8.5 inches. Each has pictorial inkstamps (presumably by Robbins) at the top.  Each has two horizontal creases and ink corrections by Robbins, as well as his signature ("Tom") at the bottom. Near fine. In each letter, Robbins demonstrates his easy humor ("My publishers haven't gotten used to my craziness yet, and I think they may be a little nervous about what I might say." ) and his well-known interest in preserving his privacy ("And don't mention my place of residency. (You wouldn't believe the strangers I had coming and going this summer.)"). Each letter has the original typed mailing envelope. Also with one contemporary publicity photo of Robbins.

Robbins is famous for guarding his privacy; that's why letters by him are so rare (only one other has been at auction, in 2012). These letters are the oldest ones ever to appear at auction, only adding to their rarity (they were written around the same time as the publication of his second book, Even Cowgirls Get the Blues). The interview mentioned in these letters was the first one he ever did.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
