    More Information:

Kay Boyle. Group of Twelve Books and Two Signed Letters. [Various: 1936-1991]. Some first editions, letters with excellent content. Twelve octavo volumes, softcover or hardcovers in jackets, various editions. Some rubbing, generally very good or better. Including a few firsts and magazine contributions, a few signed by Boyle. Additionally, there is an autograph letter signed by Boyle discussing the recipient's surrealist art show. In the original mailing envelope. From the collection of Donald Kaufmann.

Perhaps the most interesting item in this lot is the final item, a typed letter signed from Boyle to writer and Communist Party member Walter Lowenfels, dated May 14, 1954. In this letter, Boyle argues with Lowenfels about his being a propagandist for the Communist party (she believed in the reforming the government using the constitutionally-mandated methods), all this in the backdrop of the McCarthy hearings. In the letter, Boyle mentions "My husband and I are about to go through the disagreeable ordeal of a second loyalty hearing. But I still believe that we Americans who believe in the freedoms on which our government is based have our eloquent spokesmen and defenders here, not only in England and France." Some wear, creasing to letter. A fantastic letter in good only condition.
